Pin Show & Displays @ Ferragosto Italian Cultural Street Fair Posted Wednesday, August 15, 2007 by saltlakepinclub
Saturday, August 18, 10 a.m. -10 p.m.
300 South & 400 West-Gateway Area
Ferragosto, is a free fair in SLC's "Little Italy"! This year we are pleased to welcome our new Olympic sister city Torino, Italy. Come out & wear your Olympic attire. Many Olympic pin vendors will be in a large booth at the street fair in front of the Rio Grande Depot. The following Olympic pin vendors are scheduled to be there: Bobby Crow, Ron Burgers, Cliff and Eve Smathers, Susan Kempff, and Janet Grissom. Many of the vendors have pins from most of the previous Olympic games including Salt Lake and Torino and new pins for Beijing and Vancouver. This may be your only chance to see and purchase pins this summer. This would be an excellent time to complete your collections!!! It should be a fun experience and the gelato is excellent. This is the 5th year for this free cultural festival - a celebration of Italian Art, Music, Entertainment, Games such as "bocce ball" and Food that's an Art all its own! Soda pop, juice and bottled water will be provided as well as plates, utensils and napkins. WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE ALL MEMBERS TO BRING A PIN DISPLAY TO THE PICNIC. Some of these pin displays are truly works of art. Also, any Olympic memorabilia collections are welcome. Many members have done some very clever things. Find out what you can do with all the Olympic pins you have been collecting. You won’t be disappointed. If you have any questions concerning the picnic, please email. Report Of Last Year's SLPC Picnic Posted Thursday, July 20, 2006 by saltlakepinclub
The picnic was one of the best ever!!! We had a wide variety of food such as: lasagna, deli sandwiches, sushi, chicken, pot stickers, fruit salad, green salad and assorted deserts and drinks. The attendance was very good. The pin displays were very impressive, wonderful and many were quite clever. Todd Sukawa brought a very large display in a custom made Shadow box. It was very colorful and contained over 200 pins among a very imaginary mat design. Carolyn brought a very nice display of Olympic theme heart pins and a large display of Olympic pins depicting sports. Carolyn has an artistic eye! Shelly brought a huge display of food pins. Some were quite rare. The Tanners brought some beautifully framed pins. One of the nicest was a framed set surrounding a beautiful picture of the Olympic caldron and a wonderful collection of patriotic Olympic pins. Susan's collection centered on some of the rarest Athens Pins. Bryan Floyd had two framed sets of western and Indian theme pins. Ben Suta had a very nice framed set showing off the Olympic cast pins and another framed set with a picture of the downtown Salt Lake with the fireworks surrounded by various pins. Ike Wong brought a cool NBC fanny pack covered with Olympic media pins. Todd Smith brought in a framed set of bridge pins. Steve McCann brought in his framed Olympic Torch Relay Pins. The pins surrounded a picture of the Olympic caldron with fireworks and etched in the glass was Salt Lake 2002. The pin displays gave the club members some great ideas about how to display their pins. Also, for future events, we have some very nice collections that we can show off to the public. If you missed the pin displays, we hope to have some pictures on display during the fall club meetings. Perhaps in the future, we can have another club pin show!!!
